On the Rock

What do you trust in?

It’s an important question as the world reels in uncertainty from the recent shock of the COVID-19 pandemic. Conspiracy theories abound, fear and suspicion mingle, defiance and frustration simmer, and no one seems to be able to get a firm handle on the truth.

Even before this microscopic menace shook the world, my nation already seethed with a sickly admixture of political posturing and spin-doctored semi-truths blended into our daily diet of news and memes.

It’s ironic that in the so-called “Information Age,” it’s become increasingly difficult to find useful information. Most data we are fed is tainted by the agenda of its handlers before being slanted by the agenda of it’s recipients.

Sometimes it seems we are living in a gigantic game of Telephone in which no one remembers either who went first or the words of the beginning message.

As a people, we are well primed for the time my Lord Yeshua (Jesus) warned His disciples against, when “…false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.” (Mat. 24:24)

My brothers and sisters in Christ, now more than ever, we need to be both vigilant in understanding the signs of the times and diligent in accurately handling the truth. But even more, we need to take seriously the ambassadorship for the Kingdom we represent during our exile on earth.

So again as we face the unknown, I ask: What do you trust in?

Is it your freedom to choose or your rights? A political party or a system of government? Your local grocery store, a paycheck, the economy? Do you trust most in a spouse or a friend? Your parent or child? Good health?

Or do you trust most in the unchanging One, the Ancient of Days whose hands have formed you; who knows the length of your days; and whose love and mercy know no bounds?

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, 
for my hope is from him. 
He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; 
I shall not be shaken. 
On God rests my salvation and my glory; 
my mighty rock, my refuge is God. 
Trust in him at all times, O people; 
pour out your heart before him; 
God is a refuge for us. Selah

  1. G’day Heather, been awhile. Thank you for posting this, we need to be reminded and asked good Questions.

Most data we are fed is tainted by the agenda of its handlers before being slanted by the agenda of it’s recipients.” Its a big joke now really i reckon, information age has made a bit dumb and further away from the truth. While is why Christians need to hold on even tighter to the Word a.

    Who do i trust in. Unfortunately myself to much at times, but its when i listen to good solid worship music, and i spend time in the word, that its really clear who i want to out all of my trust in.

    A daily journey of trusting and abiding.

    1. Well! It has been a while. How are you holding up with the double-whammy of wildfires and then COVID-19? Were you affected by the fires?

      As for the truth and the Word, I know if I don’t keep myself on a steady, daily diet of the Word of God, my thoughts drift away depressingly fast. Each day, I am reminded how weak I am and how much I need Him!!

      1. Hey! Thankfully not effected by the fires and ha been impacted by COVID-19 in that working from home and having to stay home. It’s been both good and annoying.

      6. A bit. Our son had to come home to finish his first year in college, and the girls’ high school went to an online format – which means all of us were here and I had a difficult time getting writing done! But it’s been a blessing, too. I’ve gotten some much-needed rest (and found out I have ME/CFS). I am about to start working outside the home, though. They cut my husband’s salary and without knowing whether or not I’ll be able to substitute teach at the school next year, I need to contribute financially. It’s going to be different, but I get to work with other Christians, so that’s awesome!

        I was going to ask: are there a bunch of conspiracy theories circulating in Australia? This COVID stuff seems to have set off an unusual number of them here!

      7. Crikey, sorry to hear about your hubby’s work situation and so good that you will be able to work with other Christians! Both my wife and i are working from home for now and loving it really. I have worked out that i spend about 500 hours a year commuting and i think i need to change that!

        My dear, that conspiracy stuff is no doubt world wide. Even christians get sucked in with end times prophesy this and that. I try and not pay any attention, i feel like it can be a ploy of the father of lies to get us all distracted from the way, the truth and the life. What work will you be doing Heather?

      8. True, true. I’ve just been trying to encourage my Christian friends to keep our eyes on the Lord. If He’s coming again, He’ll come! If not, than not. Either way, we still need to be faithful.

        A friend of a friend started a business out of their home and it has taken off far more than they ever imagined. They make ketogenic diet-friendly baking mixes and sell them online. I talked with her yesterday and they started the business because they are in their mid 50s and have 3 dependent special-needs adults, so the couple hopes the business will fund the kids’ care when the Lord takes them home. I’m actually excited to work for them because of that!
